Slow Drain A Pain?

There is never a convenient time for a slow drain or a clogged toilet.  And, when it happens, everything comes to a stop.  Before you call the pros to fix a clogged toilet or slow drain, try this trick to clear the problem. 

1. Boil two cups of water on the stove or in the microwave.  
2. Mix together 1 c. baking soda, 1 c. salt, and 1/4 c. cream of tartar.
3. Pour dry ingredients into a glass or plastic sealable container and stir until well mixed.
4. Measure out 1/4 c. of the dry ingredients and pour into clogged drain.  
5. Pour two cups of boiling water into drain.  
6. Let stand for 30 minutes.  
7. Flush the toilet or run fresh water through the drain.

A Word of Caution:  If you do use off the shelf drain chemicals, only use them when the drain is still draining, as standing water will cause excessive corrosive action on metallic pipes. And, if the blockage is not dissolved, the remaining solution will be a hazard to anybody working on it. Don’t forget to protect your eyes!
