To begin, BTU is an acronym for British Thermal Unit. Although it has the word British in it, this is a fairly universal way to measure energy. A single BTU is equal to the amount of energy that it takes to be able to increase a pound of water by 1° Fahrenheit.
Every air conditioning unit has its own specific BTUs. This measurement is used as a reference to how many it is able to either remove or add to the air in the home. But bigger isn’t always better.
